The best technology doesn't always win. (See Microsoft.) Intel has a huge war chest for its years of dominance. It can weather many missteps. It can even leverage its dominant position to keep the world's biggest PC manufacturer from even offering a competing CPU. Intel has a roadmap to 45 nm, while AMD is hoping to attain 65 nm by late 2006. Sure, this one metric alone isn't everything, but you can sure get great profit margins by producing more CPUs per unit area than AMD can.

And I'm a huge fan of AMD. Love their competitive spirit. It just isn't enough to radically alter the landscape. (Yet?)
