Semantics
First off, I'll agree with you on Disney.

But the rest of this is really a semantic argument. What does
"owning the music" mean? To me, it means I fully own that copy
of the music. I can do anything I want with it, including re-
selling that copy to someone else. Yes, I am restricted by
copyright law in some of my other actions, but then again, I own
my car, but am restricted by traffic laws as to its use as well. But
make no mistake, I own that particular instance of the content.

---When Michael Jackson bought all the Beatles' songs, he
bought the music.---

No, he bought the copyright to those songs. That gives him
certain rights, but it has no effect on the Beatles music that I
already own.

---From your quote above, Disney is making a distinction
between owning Cinderella and owning a new DVD of
Cinderella.---

The ads make no such distinction. They say, "Own it today",
meaning you can own that one instance of the content. The way
they could differentiate would be to say, "Own the right to
distribute it today!"
