I remain a skeptic
Portable music:
I should be able to buy a song from any service I like (or rip it from the CD I bought) and play it on any device capable of deciphering that codec. I should never have to buy the same song twice in order to play it on a different device. And most absolutely I should not be expected to buy the same song in the MP3 format twice to be able to play it on my computer and cellphone.
With CDs it didn't matter what store I bought the disc from and who made my CD player, they all worked together. (I will make exceptions for something along the lines of switching from CD to SACD since it's an entirely different HARDWARE medium, though I should cetainly be able to copy my purchased CD onto SACD to play on my hardware as long as I accept that the quality isn't going to be the same as a purchased SACD.)


Why should I accept anything less in this day and age when we should be even more flexible, not more closed and isolated.

Somehow I doubt either Microsoft or Apple will get us there.
And that's before we even utter the 4-letter word RIAA!
