As a previous reply pointed out, though, the biggest
determinant in iPod battery life seems to be how
much you use the disk drive. If you're fiddling with
the iPod all the time (and, thereby, keeping the
disk spun up), battery life isn't very good. But if
you let the iPod play at least an album's worth
without intereference, then the battery life is
fine.

Please note that for the new-generation iPods
(with the docking connector), the latest firmware
noticably improves the usability of the battery
indicator.
