What about thumbprint security at start up or just after start up? You can buy devices for password verification, why not at start up? As soon as the child is provided the computer, immediately set it to start up only with the assigned print or to shut down immediately after start up if print is not scanned. This way the computer is useless to anyone it is not assigned to and removes the risk of resale.
