It's not the CPU...
it's the chipsets and the HQ MOBOs that keep Intel in any real competition, other than the RAMBUS iasco, Intels latest chipsets have proved to be very nice and stable.
VIA chipsets are sometimes hit or miss. Sometimes they are great, othertimes they need massive patching to be stable.
