Years ago my dad bought a Gateway Pentium 120. It was the best thing on the market at the time. He still has it for basic word processing and email. He has since upgraded the processor and other internals. And is still very satisfied with his original purchase.

Fast forward almost a decade, when I was looking to upgrade my home PC with a laptop. Gateway offered almost exactly half of the features while being nearly double the price of the system I bought from Sony. And a friend of mine has had nothing but trouble from the Emachine he purchase for his college daughter. I doubt if the old Gateway 2000 company will ever really offer a quality computer again or just regress to selling cow piles in cow spotted boxes.
