I have Intel, AMD, and Sun Servers
The Intel boxes are the 1st to fail,
followed by AMD. Totqal up time on
both has been about 35 days, then reboot,
reconfigure, then put into Service.
My Sun Machines have been up for
about 3 1/2 years for one and 7 years
for the others.
The one that Went down 3 1/2 years ago,
because We moved it into another room.
I can change out Power Supplies, Memory, CPU's
How they are configured (IE Parallel or Series,
or Series and Parallel) without shutting Down.
We assign Intel to non critical tasks, the
last Machine chosen. While AMD fares better on
assignments, the Sun Machines get the Critical
Tasks, as they never Fail.
Its like the difference between, a yugo,a Geo Metro, and a Rolls Royce.
My Sun Machines cost a little more, but do a whole lot more, sure i MIGHT GET THERE in the
Intel Yugo, but then again it may just break
down again. The AMD geo, will almost always
get Me there, but I'll be cramped, while the Sun's
Rolls Royce will always get me there in the comfort, I should be going in.
