I understand better where you are coming from now.
I also understand the choices that you made when you built your machine.
I built mine later, when the 3800 was already out for a little while (2 months ago).

For me, the important things were game performance and power consumption. For games, the amd's are kicking behind.
The power consumption for amd vs intel is so heavily in amd's favor (allowing higher overclocking with conventional cooling if one desires to do so) that it's not even funny.
