Ok, here's a few links that prove what I'm saying
Check this first link out... This is a 3D Bench without 3DNow...

http://techreport.com/reviews/2005q3/athlon64-x2-3800/3dmark.gif

Both the 820 and the 840 are beating the X2 3800+ proving that the basic core of the Pentium D is more powerful... Intel needs to get people to make optimized versions of games to use their SSE 3 and things will even out in that area.

In the memory tests I expect AMD to win because their Memory Controller is integrated in the CPU...

in both Divx and Xmpeg the X2 3800+ performs closer to the 820 than it does the 840...

Now how about these...

http://techreport.com/reviews/2005q3/athlon64-x2-3800/sandra-mm-int.gif

http://techreport.com/reviews/2005q3/athlon64-x2-3800/sandra-mm-fp.gif

In both of those tests (Multimedia and FP) you can see that even the 820 is wiping the floor with the X2 3800+... In fact the 820 is wiping the floor with the X2 4200+ in the Floating Point Test...

These two tests prove that the 3DNow FPU extensions are where AMD is getting some of their biggest gains and not having those optimizations are proving the higher clocked FPU is actually performing far better than the lower end alternative.

Now again, look at the facts...

Nobody here is arguing that the Memory Controller and 3DNow Optimizations aren't a very good thing...

Nobody here is arguing that the AMD CPU's aren't a Good Deal...

Nobody here is arguing that they out perform the Intel's in some areas...

Now, it doesn't matter how AMD is getting their advantage the point is they have the appearance of one (I say appearance because some of the tests will change when they actually figure out ways to better test the dual core products).

Right now, nobody really cares how well these things do with applications that don't require multiple threads... Yet that is what most benchmarks are using... If you look at the benchmarks and note the P4 EE showing you'll see clearly that they're not Multi-Threaded Applications in most cases so even that skews the tests.

Now here's my point... I bought my Pentium D 820 in Early to mid June for $268 (they were released in April) the lower end AMD Dual Cores didn't release until August... So, it wasn't until 2 - 3 months later that I would've seen a fairly comparably priced AMD... Basically, I could've bought the X2 4400+ for something like $600 or I could've bought the 820D for $268...

In short, I bought the best available processor at the time for the price I was looking to spend...

Now here's another tidbit for you...

http://www.tgdaily.com/2005/11/08/amd_to_launch_940-pin_cpus/index.html

I would still have to replace my board and CPU when Upgrading next time so I don't see an issue...

Now if you think this is where it ends, you're crazy... The link below shows a processor that many feel out performs the latest from both companies.

http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2554

Everyone thinks Intel is in trouble but they've never been in trouble... They do what they do and follow their own plan but they're far from going out of business!

Now again, if you've read my threads note that I've used AMD's from the 5x86 (before the K5) all the way through the Athlon XPs... And, if the X2 3800+ were out at the same time as the 820D with comparable pricing I might still be using them.
