That's flawed!
Hyper Transport is as flawed as Hyper Threading...

I don't care who you are, you can run things through two pipes to the same source or through a single pipe but the source is only going to work as fast as it can! Basically, you can start more processes with HT but you can't finish them any quicker! This has been proven time and time again as a flawed concept!

The Pentium D is actually a decent processor, clock cycle for clock cycle the AMD wins (no doubt about it, I'm a big fan of the Athlon) but my Wallet was limited and Applications Like Photoshop will use the Dual Core so I got more use out of the Pentium D than I would have the Athlon.

Another note, VMWare seems to support Multi-Threading and having a Server VM running with my desktop doesn't slow anything down so I can train at full speed as well...

At any rate, it is the memory controller and 3DNow that are giving AMD the big gains... Why do you suppose it is that Raw Number Crunching (not using 3DNow) still tends to side with the Pentium...

Office Applications are comparable for most purposes and only advanced Macros would show a difference (not sure who would win that)...

As for Games, Hands Down the 3DNow Support is whipping the snot out of Intel and everyone including Intel knows it! 3DNow was always a superior mathematical engine to SSE and if not for Apple's intervention over the past year or so SSE still wouldn't be able to compete (SSE 3 is much better than past offerings) and Intel even licensed 3DNow for their latest Processors.

As for 64-bit support, I can't comment because my nVidia Video Card doesn't seem to like 64 Bit Linux!
