Price and Upgradability?
You're right, it is about price...

I had the choice between a single core AMD 64 3200+ and an Intel Pentium D 820... I choose the Pentium D because they were comparably priced and anything that would use the dual core would whip the 3200+... Crud, the dual core would whip the 3500+ if both cores were used...

Why is it that Intel jumped in with better dual core pricing than AMD? Why does AMD now feel they're worth that much more?

The truth is, if Intel integrates the Memory Controller then everything shifts back to Intel have the faster products and we'll continue this leap frogging over and over again.
