Common problem

As a warranty repair specialist in the entertainment industry for many years now, this problem with "bulging caps" is not unusual.

The problem is simply using under-rated capacitors in critical circuits. As a general rule, capacitors should be rated for twice the line voltage of the circuit they are used in. Using a 1500uf @ 6.3V in a 5 volt circuit is asking for trouble. Using a 1500uf @ 10V or 12V would be desirable.

It sometimes boils down to whats in stock verses waiting for the right part being ordered causing delays in shipping products. The other reason is the cost of the correct part is higher, thus causing the product cost of product to rise cutting into the profits.

Either way the consumer gets impacted with problematic products.
