DSL and cell phone users
I have cable internet access and have had absolutely zero troubles or slowdowns with it. None of the friends of mine that have it have experienced any troubles either. For a while, the people I know in this area with DSL had troubles, but that has all but dissappeared in the last year as older copper was replaced in the area.

Depending on what city or section of the country you are in, DSL will be better than cable, or cable will be better than DSL, or as in the area here they are both equally reliable and speedy.

The big disadvantage to DSL is the fact that you have to have a phone number on a regular land-line to get DSL. My household is all cellular so we don't have a land based phone number. 2 of my brothers-in-law were going to go all cellular as well, but decided to get DSL. The telco required them to have an active phone number otherwise they wouldn't install DSL. So, they are both paying for a service they don't want or use. One of them doesn't even have a phone plugged into a jack anywhere in the house, but he's having to pay $20 per month extra just to have the phone number. As more homes go all cellular, cable will continue to be the broadband service of choice for those people until the telcos dis-associate DSL with phone service.
