They know that most of the people will stay with them since the lack of major competition in the market segments of cheap commodity PCs/SW.
Ofcourse, AMD gave a good proding to Intel to rethink its product line and forced them to come up with 64 bit versions of their dinosauric x86 beasts.
SImilarly, Linux and increased performance in UNIX/Risc space forced MS to 64-bitify its PC os...
No competition, No progress. Its like in a dictatorship where the people who have the power do nothing but take care of their own interests....
