What hurt AMD the most
was the fact that it took MS so long to release a gold version of its x64 version of WinXP. By the time MS released it, Intel had their own x86-64 processor.

If MS had its OS ready before Intel had its processor ready, AMD would have taken a nice healthy slice of Intel's market share.
