I agree that the loss of manufacturing jobs in this country is troubling. I suspect we may, once again, suffer a Great Depression like economy if this trend doesn't stop.

But... The computer market is a world-wide market. If US companies are going to compete on that stage, they need to be price-competitive. So as other nations use their inherent low labor costs to manufacture and sell products world-wide, the US companies will lose market share and die, unless they do the same.

Ultimately we'll end up in exactly the same place because no one (outside of the US) is going to pay twice the price for the same product simply because it is made in America. Within the US the products will retain market share only if tariffs are placed on the foreign products to make them less competitive.

Besides, paying more for computers will cause one of two things to happen:

1. Less money will then be available to purchase other goods and services.

or

2. Computers will no longer be affordable.

Either of these is bad.
