Thats because its not a singleton event, it happens continuously
And how you stay competitive is constantly trying to out poerform your advesaries. Its Spy-vs.-Spy on a constant basis. Intel makes a $1,000.00 PCU for $40 or a $78.50 CPU for $40. AMD needs to get there and make a better CPU for $40 or less, or slightly more, but a way better product and maintain cost and quality leadership. Intel leads by inertia now and the fact that Dell is the most productive producer of goods worldwide. They both cannot ignore the swelling of the blows AMD is landing to their motherf'n nose. Ichty giddy gaya...

Also, most factories do not immediately come on line. Where did you get that idea? Just like good software pays for itself in 5 or 6 years when you fully realize its potential. Hell, even Dell's factory in SC won't be fully "at" capacity for awhile. There could also be "1 more" theories at work, where the production levels lend themselves to a rate increase and peak where adding even a single CPU to production would start to nullify profits until certain other capacities were met.

Then again I just write psychobabble.
