Thanks for pointing that out.
While no raw per second measure correlates perfectly with real application performance MHz may be the least reflective (especially at the current bleeding edge).

Perhaps I should have clarified that the watts I was refering to was max. power dissipated. Whatever the proportion of CPU operation to current "leakage" max. power dissipated is a consumption *and* cooling issue. (Interesting link re. RMS watts http://www.hifi-writer.com/he/misc/rmspower.htm.)

My AMD replacement of Intel was to upgrade a CPU on an older motherboard (MHz wink. Between CPU replacement options of the same CPU voltage and MHz (both were mobo limitations) the AMD dissipated much less power than the Intel.

Your post prompted me to do some brief research into various benchmark comparisions between more recent high end AMD's and Intel's. Looks like AMD has better or comparable performance, comparable price, less watts and all at much lower GHz.

BTW happy to see your posts. Haven't seen any for a while but I always look for your knowledgeable and thoughtful contributions. Sorry I can't offer anything re. the MS patch debacle.
