Broadband vs. Dialup
I have friends in Spain on DSL. The reason? Dialup costs $50.00 a month and DSL costs $50.00 a month. It's a no-brainer. Here in the US, my unlimited dial-up costs $9.00 a month, where as broadband will cost $25.00 a month on special, with later increases in price after the promo period is over. Why do I need broadband at that price to check email and sports scores? If I need a download, I can get that at work, put it on a USB key and take it home.

If you want to see greater penetration, raise the price on dialup or drop it on broadband.

Not surprising, if you consider-  carlito408@... | 09/30/05
That is the NC factory's opinion. How about the PC factory's opinion?  osreinstall | 09/30/05
It's the software factory's opinion  IT_User | 09/30/05
NC okay for light stuff  osreinstall | 09/30/05
I've gotta agree with you, osreinstall  Judas I. | 09/30/05

There will be free and open competition among service providers.  DonnieBoy | 10/01/05
Still too lazy to take care of yourself  osreinstall | 10/01/05
True, maybe we need the equivalent of FDIC for service providers.  DonnieBoy | 10/01/05
No we don't need a solution to a non problem.  osreinstall | 10/01/05
Wow man, you are brilliant. Durring a huricane or flood, the safest place  DonnieBoy | 10/01/05
I am glad you are seeing the drawbacks  osreinstall | 10/01/05
Man, you are brilliant, networks will NOT get more relibable or faster.  DonnieBoy | 10/01/05
You cannot insure privacy.  osreinstall | 10/01/05
Apples and oranges  bystander_z | 10/01/05
And, if someone hacks or steals your home computer, you can NOT undo it.  DonnieBoy | 10/01/05
No way Donnieboy  osreinstall | 10/01/05
Another thing, think of all the personal information your Bank has.  DonnieBoy | 10/02/05
You are a lousy salesman!  osreinstall | 10/02/05
But, hey, you can own your own vault too. Don't trust the phone company,  DonnieBoy | 10/02/05
The cell phones are monitored by the NSA.  osreinstall | 10/02/05
Um yeah, if you want save any $$ that is  voska | 10/03/05
And, the network is rapidly approaching that level of reliability.  DonnieBoy | 10/01/05
Where?  CobraA1 | 10/01/05
Yes, some sites have not figured out how to scale.  DonnieBoy | 10/01/05
Re: scaling  CobraA1 | 10/02/05
Google is a good example of a company that figured it out.  DonnieBoy | 10/02/05

Are you delirious?  osreinstall | 10/01/05
Well, you want to restrict a network computer more than I do.  DonnieBoy | 10/01/05
What is the final rendition?  osreinstall | 10/01/05
There is not final rendition of a network computer. It will evolve.  DonnieBoy | 10/01/05
Some vague answer that was.  osreinstall | 10/01/05
I can not predice the future of NCs anymore than you can predict the future  DonnieBoy | 10/01/05
Then you must be blowing smoke.  osreinstall | 10/01/05
Oh, and those PCs can not be stolen, can survive floods and huricanes???  DonnieBoy | 10/01/05
Go buy a USB external drive and be quiet.  osreinstall | 10/01/05
And, how many photos and MP3s will fit on a USB drive???  DonnieBoy | 10/01/05
You don't get it. It is a independent thing  osreinstall | 10/01/05
You think everybody is a computer expert. Walk in to a few homes, you will  DonnieBoy | 10/01/05
You don't have to be an expert. Just hire one.  osreinstall | 10/01/05
Yes, and how could you trust that local expert, and how much would it cost?  DonnieBoy | 10/02/05
Always support your local businessman  osreinstall | 10/02/05
Good point, with open source, local providers will be able to offer  DonnieBoy | 10/02/05

How is McNealy doing these days?  osreinstall | 10/01/05
We won't depend on McNealy to provide reliable networks.  DonnieBoy | 10/01/05
They would be temporary setup.  osreinstall | 10/01/05
The point is, there are methods to quickly restore network connectivity  DonnieBoy | 10/01/05
