Question
To those who oppose outsourcing, would you ban shrink-wrapped software from India or Romania? If not, why not? What is the difference between a shrink-wrapped product and a custom piece of software developed by outsourcers in India or Romania?

No one here would consider banning, say, the importation of Japanese cars because they were causing too many problems for local car companies. That is Bad Protectionism, and the consensus seems to be that banning importation of products is a bad thing.

How is importation of software different, other than the fact that the people who make software in rich nations tend to categorized as "white collar" due to their income levels?
