Certainly closed for much of their software but to compare
to MS in this example is ridiculous.

Darwin, improvements and testing of the BSD operating
systems particularly filesystems, KDE HTML rendering core,
the quicktime streaming server, modifications to gcc,
rendezvous, and many more have had a valuable
contribution to these open source projects.

Funny Apple's contribution has been acknowledged by the
projects themselves, but lost on you.
