The PC as we know it is changing.
We now get more of our applications from the web. The big ones are email, search, news, online purchases, banking. Some of these applications are replacing things we did not the phone, or by brick and morter, not old desktop applications. But, Sun, Google, and others are working full time on web applications. The big thing they need to enable is applications caching, so that the online applications persist when you disconnect from the web, but files are synchronized when you log back in. Then, the new web applications would appear like more traditional applications. For that matter, they could deliver OpenOffice as a web application, though it would be just the standard version, modified to only save files where they are synchronized online. Updates would be automatic. And, if your hard drive dies, just buy a new one, install Windows (or Linux), go to your service provider, and your applications and files will be downloaded automatically. For those that don't make their life out of computers, this would be great.

Oh, I happen to agree that at a minimum, we want a 12 inch screen, keyboard, and mouse. Maybe they could plug into a cell phone, but we want them.
