First reaction was to look at Microsoft and basic strategy.

Are you looking at Vista as part of XP?
It's going to be out long before any X360 changes could be moved to Windows.

What of backward compatibility?
That's an essential sales point for them.
Running older applications might be separable, but that's a lot of work.

Will they wait for their developers to decide and change?
Microsoft relies on their ecosystem. They may have been willing to accept discomfort recently, but could they make a change as substantial as Apple's without some very effective tools?


Some considerations are more important than making the best possible use of technology. Particularly given the oft stated fact that for many uses the existing technology is sufficient.
