It is really so hard for MS to put together a general purpose OS like
EVERYBODY else?

We've been running Linux 2.4.x on Itanium-2 since early 2004.

This is NOT your daddie's itanium box. It's a 128 processosr SMP. It can run all the desktop code just fine.

With UNIX/Linux we can run server and client/desktop code SEAMLESSLY on every h/w. No special provisions are needed or stripped down OSs or anything else.

Why is it so hard for MS to write finally an OS that can run as is on a processor?

Inepptitude and amateurism.

And the usual: promise everything for years, and deliver 1/10th at the end. Then start the cycle of reselling 'major upgrades' (MS lingo for bug fixes) over and over.
