A "help" this time, but what next....
Frankly, better supervision by responsible adults would have accomplished the same result. The computer didn't save the girl, the lifeguard did. Yes, it's a heartwarming story and i'm glad the girl is OK but you need to see the bigger picture here. Things like this are just another facet of 'big brother' trying to condition you to think that being electronically monitored all the time is a GOOD thing. What happens when they want to install cameras/sensors/monitors/listening devices in your business, public meeting places, even your home, for your "safety" and "for your own good"? And yes, I know that things like that are available now, but I'm talking about when it becomes mandatory and not optional. It's stories like this that are proudly touted as "See what tech can do to improve your life? See? You need to save your babies by letting us install things like this to monitor you". This item in and of itself is probably a good thing, if used only in the same context as it was used here... but can you see where it could lead? Scoff if you want, write me off as one of the "black helicopter" crowd, call me a technophobe...which I'm not...but when more and more intrusive measures start being introduced into your daily life under the guise of protection and safety, remember that there were some people out there trying to alert you to the potential dangers that are gradually being introduced under the guise of "saving the children". Slippery slope, my friends. Food for thought.
