Since you diss the compiler, my guess is you are not a fan of the path towards multi-Core. The only way to extract the benefits of multiple cores is to put greater burden on the compiler to thread apps and the OS to schedule them.

I appreciate your 1962 advanced computing thinking but things are way different now. Software and the ability of humans to increase compiler efficiency and capability is a critical part of the future.

I have heard of Kuck and I have heard of Dave Hennesey who happened to be MY instructor in college as well as Dave Bradley, one of the original architects of the PC.
So, while your Illiac example is a great set of experiences, I'll trump that with the Vax11/780 that I grew up with.
