Not necessarily for the reason stated
First of all, Itanium is not a RISC chip so comparing it with a Sparc or a PPC is not appropriate.

I beleive that Itanium will probably fail because x86-64 is cheap and because x86-64 performance is *good enough*, not superior and maybe not even equal to the Itanium.

The Itanium's performance numbers would need to be *significantly* higher than x86-64 without a proportional increase in price in order for it to make any real headway in the market.
