Brilliant????
First, there is no such thing as typical traffic patterns, at least in a development environment. So looking for anomolies would find a lot. All false positives. If it can't be disabled I'll have to use non Intel processors.

If it allows sudden bursts of activity frequently seen (at least in my work), it would also allow sudden bursts of activity from virus activity.

Second, it would take about 15 minutes to modify an existing virus to generate the type of network usage that would easily hide in "normal" business network usage.

Third, it would have no effect on adware/spyware/etc which seem to be much more difficult to keep out of a network.

Fourth, as for Vista not letting a suspected computer connect to a network... MS better be really sure of their virus definitions. Some anti virus programs (F-Secure in particular) see some legitimate programs as virus's. One of my company's products is an IM program tailored to a specific industries needs. F-Secure always sees it as a virus. (Its not. I wrote it and developed the propriatary protocol.) I've seen other AV programs single out other programs. MS would be in a position to disconnect computers with competitors software. I don't want to deal with all the help calls from end users "my computer won't connect to anything".
