A few problems
First, it won't take long at all before worms/virus's/etc are produced to emulate "normal" network traffic.

Next, what would be considered abnormal network activity? On my network (used primarily for development) there might be very little activity for hours, then I might transfer a 500 meg database to or from a customer site, or several thousand small files.... There really is no pattern. But if it disconnects from the network unexpectedly it will interfere with my ability to do my job. Maybe I should stock up on the current processors.
