Parasite-ware... good one
I use a Mac Mini and thought I'd check to see what tasks are
sucking extra CPU time and memory. I was surprised to see that
several widgets in the dashboard (like Konfabulator) have 10-20
meg of memory set aside but are not using any CPU resources
while not active. I have used PCs in the past and am familiar with
the resource overhead problems you are talking about.

I'm wondering when MS is going to dump the Registry and get
away from having to allocate resources to apps even when not
active. It would also solve the problem of reloading the OS and
hoping you have a recent enough version of the Registry saved
so you don't have to reload all your apps too. If I have bad OS
glitches (not since the OS 9 days, knock on wood) I just reinstall
the OS and the apps are still where they were, no reinstalling
each app needed. I've had friends that had too old a registry and
when their system got fragged they had to reinstall the OS. Then
do the same with the apps, even though the apps were on a
seperate partition and weren't affected by the ?mal-ware,
virus, hacker? that fried the Windows 'C' drive.
