- RE: "I agree speed race over"
-
I definately agree about the software stuff. From my viewpoint, the operating systems are the same. Every version of windows usually requires double the memory and double the hard drive space of the previous version. Yes you could run XP with 128 megs, if you want every single program running from the hard drive. Yes 256 megs if better, but 1Gig of memory makes everything wonderful for any copy of XP.
Software on the other hands needs a big whack in the head. First all the ad-ware, spy-ware junking up the machines. Then, what i refer to as parasite-ware programs like quick time, MSN Messenger, why do these programs need to have background programm running that just sucsk up resources, so not needed.
The part that annoys me so is running MS Word '97 compared to MS Word 2000 or 2003 are slower? Why? Bloatware, more memory, same exact program, just different looking.
I just hope that one day i won't need 500 megs of memory just to run Windows explorer
""The Bloat that comes with software today is also unnecessary. There needs to be a shift in thinking. Here we have these super-powerful processors that cant even run Windows properly, and crash when trying to run 4 or 5 programs on them. Horrible stuff.
Low heat, low power consumption, low price and streamlined software are all going to be themes for the future, unless Microsoft has it's way. If we keep going the MS way, in 2010 we will have a 24Kw server blade rack in our house just to boot Windows..."" - Posted by: ajapierce Posted on: 08/24/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
