The market's going away from your preference...
The clear direction for some years now has been a decline in desktop sales and an marked increase in laptop sales. At the same time, we're seeing fewer pure PDAs and more capability being added to phones.

All of this means the need is clearly on reducing power consumption.

Even if you're a developer, you can get some very fast high-end laptops that you can also take on the road when needed. Much more convenient than being tied to a desktop and having to replicate your development environment on a laptop each time you must hit the road. In our office, only our maintenance programmers are still tied to desktops. The rest of us switched years ago.
