I always wondered
Why AMD didn't contract out for someone to make machines for them? Since Dell was wedded to Intel, why not start a small distributor themselves?

Okay, it's not their core business but they could always split it off later. Offer the kind of service Dell used to provide.

You don't have to make a big margin on the hardware if you're really selling chips. Lowball Dell, make good machines, provide good service. Might have worked.
