- Bottom feeding is lousy business
-
There's no point in selling your product if you don't
make a profit.
Just look at all the PC brands that no longer exist - due
to the rediculous price competition. They all tried to be
the cheapest and drove themselves out of business.
Dell advertises cheap, but their average system sale
price is actually about $1600. Their website is
designed to allow you to keep nibbling the price UP.
Call them and the sales rep will recommend "useful"
upgrades at an ever increasing cost
Gateway's the same. One guy I know - who's lucky to
be able to turn a computer on - ended up with XP pro.
Apple has managed to make a profit on their machines
and a profit every quarter. A small but significant share
of the computer market sees greater "value" in the
$1,000 Mac over that $200, or even $1,000, PC. Apple
does not try to cater to the Walmart crowd - seeing it as
a losing proposition.
By the way, during this lousy economy, the sales of
expensive SUVs, houses, and luxury cars have
remained VERY strong. The Hummer is the only model
that GM does not discount. In parts of the country
house prices have climbed at double digit rates. 2002
was BMW's best year ever in the US market. - Posted by: j.m.galvin Posted on: 10/22/03 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
