NetBurst was marketing genius, friend.
For starters, NetBurst effectively demolished anything AMD had to offer up until about the launch of the FX-55 and the Athlon 64 4000+. The K7 series CPU's were trounced, absolutely trounced, by the Pentium 4. Indeed, according to Tom's Hardware, a Northwood 3.0 GHz can defeat an Athlon 64 3800+ in a majority of tasks.

The Pentium M is a wild success, and the Yonah dual-core due to emerge in February has been touted by Anandtech as "the most advanced" dual core from either AMD or Intel. Intel's next generation mainstream chips are to be engineered with the current Pentium M architecture, and they will feature 4 MB of cache, and no memory controller.
