"InHell has been playing catch-up to AMD's
superior technology for the past 6 years since Athlon was introduced."
That seems to be a fair analysis. Of course AMD did it by buying NexGen, thus acquiring their unique bus architecture and the patents to use them. And to be fair, the original Athlon's had their own problems, including speed and stability issues.
But let's not forget that AMD spent about a decade playing catch-up to Intel. Face it, everything K6 and below was an also-ran to Intel chips. Even the improved K6-2 and K6-3 were questionable: their "split voltage" design required only AMD "approved" motherboards designed to control the split voltages. Had AMD not changed course, they were on their way to a Cyrix-style demise. Only Via's buyout saved that company from all-out industry death.
"AMD has executed on every model CPU and is at least a generation and a half ahead of InHell - again all acknowledged by industry sources."
What industry sources acknowledge AMD is at least a generation and a half ahead of Intel? It would be nice if you backed up your statements with links to sources.
"InHell on the other hand has canceled or recalled countless CPU and chipset designs and even Mobos."
Ummm, so has AMD, Sony, Samsung, Via, and just about any electronics manufacturer on this planet. Why does this make Intel any different from the others?
"On top of that InHell has lost market share across the board to AMD on laptop-desktop-server chips. In fact AMD has sold more desktop CPUs the past three quarters than InHell has - per industry sources."
Let's see that source. I'll believe you, but I'm interested in reading it myself - and I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to read it.
"And now that AMD and the JFTC and the EU have all filed lawsuits against InHell for violation of anti-trust laws and now that InHell has no competitive products for at least a year or two, you find InHell execs dumping InHell stock as fast as they can. See SEC filings for proof!"
Agreed that governing bodies should pursue those in violation of anti-trust laws. If Intel has violated those laws, then they should get their due. The rest of your post is filled with wildly speculative guesstimates and appears to be generated by a blind, vitriolic hatred for Intel.
Face it, AMD is good for Intel and vice versa. Without at least two major cpu manufacturers competing, we'd all lose. AMD is ahead now, and Intel will push them to continue to innovate in order to maintain that lead. Otherwise, AMD would just become another Intel. That's how the cycle of free-market competition works.
You referred to people who had their "heads in the sand" -- well it's time you take the long-view and gain perspective on the process. Hating Intel doesn't change anything, and it certainly doesn't do anything for your credibility as knowledgeable individual. - Posted by: billywill Posted on: 08/12/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
