AMD has been competing with 5 yr old Netburst

It's all over for AMD in 8 months.

While Athlon and it's 64bit sibling, Opteron, is a good design - thanks to AMD's acquisition on NexGen, it has been largely competing against a 5+ year old Netburst design. Netburst has served it's purpose and sold ~1/2BILLION chips and it's time for CPU architects to take advantage of many more transisitors available to them.

You're "Intel playing catch-up..blah blah" is Soooo last year. AMD has done well because Intel has squeezed Netburst beyond it's intended life. AMD knows it has a good design (now) and has 8 months to get market traction which is why it's using the legal system to promote their product. Well, the Intel army is comming...
