There is some wisdom here.
"You might ask why [Apple] doesn't take [their] OS and try to compete in the other 98 percent of the market." Indeed. OS X would be a super alternative to MS on the personal desktop. I just moved a Win2000 home system to an Apple laptop on OS X, and I'm very pleased with the results. It is small, quiet, fast, and OS X is a super way-station on the road to open source an OS world. I've got a machine that runs MS Office, Explorer, and Quicken, and yet prints through Gimp-Print, and connects to the web through Privoxy. Too cool.

"Fix the education system, R & D, infrastructure, and do no harm (with legislation)." Right on -- particularly on the third point. We won't preserve U.S. IT capability by protecting established monopolies with silly patent and copyright law, and certainly not with the Digital Monopoly Creation Act (DMCA). We'll just force innovation, growth, and regrettably, liberty overseas. After all, "The world is the marketplace."

One of the most cogent pieces I've seen on ZDNet.
