It depends on your needs
I travel overseas on business and used to carry an IBM ThinkPad
X-20 plus a Palm. Decided 3+ years ago to use an Apple
PowerBook for business travel with VPC. The main reason is that
I didn't want to worry about malware screwing up the ThinkPad
while I was half way around the world. I still used Dells at the
office and at home, but have slowly migrated to Macs only - at
60 I'm too old to spend time keeping my computers sanitized. I
have to admit that the 15" wide display also influenced my
decision and I have been know to watch a DVD on a plane from
time to time.

The 3 year migration left me with a PowerBook (replaced the
original one last year) that is used not only on the road, but also
in the office where it is attached to a 23" display. The 23"
display is great for work and the expense replaced the expense
of updating the office Dell.

The old Palm was replaced with a Palm T3. It's mainly used
when traveling as I can keep the flight schedules of all the
airlines I fly on it and if a flight is delayed I can work out
connections without dragging out the PB. It's also a lot faster for
quick information, like finding a phone number, than using the
PB.

I also picked up a 40 GB iPod for travel. While I have a few CDs
on it the ability to use it as a HD for backing up some data was
the clincher. The only time I use the iPod for music is on long
haul flights (like LA to Sydney). the rest of the time it sits in the
dock.

My backup computer is a 20" G5 iMac at home and it allows me
to work at home on a large screen when I need to.

It all gets down to what you need for your individual situation.
For me it's a large a screen as possible (sadly the 30" display
won't work with the PB), a quick reference PDA and a backup HD
that will also let me listen to music on a long flight.
