It does not say it explicity but it makes sense to have a bastardized linux core and give it a secure web page for customization, it is cheaper than using a dedicated hardware solution. They seem like basic low-power PCs with huge hard drives. makes sense, SATA is hot swap capable by default, cheap enterprise level redundancy...
My cheapo server has a couple of 2-port IDE cards and supports a total of 8 IDE channels for 16 IDE devices, since it is a motley mix of drives it is only at ~2Tb...
