I am not sure how you see this, but it makes sense from an engineering perspective. Ditch any further spending on sparc architecture, go with opteron and *viola* you suddenly have a single platform to run your Solaris, linux and WINDOWS (gasp) os...
There is a reason why VMware ESX runs native on a LINUX kernel, simply because the lack of overhead to run the native virtual manager is minimal.
Even without NET 2 optimization having a single platform to have many multi-os install options will increase reusage over many years... Unless you are not heterogeneous environment?
Ok, now I think I can see your stance. Just run windows, and nothing else - WinTel only - and you don't need any integration or variation on the client / server model. Geez I feel so restricted just typing it I mean even Dell sells RedHat linux as both a purchase and support option...
