Thanks for giving a real-world example of the poverty of Hurd's idea. Many here are fanatically shouting their expertise, but your story speaks with the authority of experience.

I have a similar experience, but for reasons of relative anonymity (since I post contrarian opinions) I won't share. But the savagery of the environment where layoffs are announced at every year at Thanksgiving to occur just after Christmas, maybe gives you a sense of where I've been.
