Overhead
Hello overhead decreases margin thereby giving you less room to negotiate price. In this day and age where even servers are being bought like a commodity buyers are looking at the bottom line. If the seller, HP, Dell or IBM, can't show anything but price then who will get the sale?
You say all Mark knows how to do is layoff people, if he picks the right positions and gets the company floating again then maybe it is the right thing. See my previous post, HP is back to employee level that it was right after the merger! Where are these people not in services facing customers or supporting backline. We won't know if Mark really has a forward plan until this finishes. If a ship is listing badly to one side you need to patch the hole and pump the water out and THEN plot your course not just change course and hope the water runs out without you disturbing anything else. God knows this company has gone through enough change for the sake of change in the last half dozen years.
Remeber for a benchmark of unholy arrogance against employee's you have to look at Allen that ran AT&T for several years when the joke was AT&T stood for Allen and 2 temps!
