Just to remove the ambiguity...
... CEO's are violent parasites who gain by turning companies into a cash flow on which they feed. A large company like HP can endure a succession of CEO's, each departing with an even bigger reward than s/he received on arrival, before finally collapsing.

Then the company is taken over by a "turn-around" specialist whose fortune is made by selling off components of the business, assuring the company can never recover its former stature.

Then the withered husk can be "merged", generating a huge payout for the CEO who oversees the demise.

Didn't want you thinking I was in favor of predatory CEOs.
