If AMD wants to kill itself, then it's an advertisement.
I agree with that.

To those who believe this is an advertisement, they are advertising only to two communities:

1.) The typical techsurfers, who routinely ally themselves with one, Intel, AMD and for the hell of it VIA and Transmeta.

...and...

2.) The business world of investors and capitalists, who watch every micronic move of the stock market and are ultimately uninterested in who made the CPU in their notebook, but rather who in the CPU industry has the highest market share.

It is doubtful even if AMD does win that Intel will be very struck by it. The Pentium M design seems to be very promising, and Centrino altogether has been successful on a global scale. Regardless of who's chip is better, Intel is doing very, very, very, very well right now from a market perspective.

As a matter of fact, in this year's Forbes magazine announcing the WORLD's 2000 "leading" companies, Intel was two behind IBM as #71. 71 out of 2000, GLOBAL, corporations.

It was curious to me that in a July 2005 issue of Businessweek, that the only articles with Intel were ones of their staunch innovation and drive for the future, and how not a single word about the AMD-Intel battle was mentioned. There was non in June, either. Of course, they are a weekly or biweekly publication, so I'll have to find a few more of their issues.

I doubt very seriously this is some coy attempt at "advertisement" on AMD's part, as with a corporation of their size, that is committing corporate suicide. AMD must have thought very seriously that they had a good chance at winning this lawsuit, because if they launched their allegations at Intel merely for the purpose of "advertising," it would spell nothing or certain death for AMD. As it is now, I think it spells that anyways.

If AMD loses the case, Intel has the right to then sue for damages, where AMD would have to pay Intel whatever Intel lost in the previous lawsuit.

If AMD wins, well... I refer back to an age old lawsuit where a one Microsoft Corporation was accused of the same thing. I dunno about anyone else, but the Microsoft of today sounds more dominant then they did when they were sued for dominance.

Nevertheless, I am admittedly an Intel fan, and so I do hope they come out on top in this lawsuit. grin
