HP wants to be the #1 computer maker, an understandable goal given the demand of stockholders for maximum profits and, therefore, dividends. The only way to achieve this is to get costs down to what Dell pays and Dell pays less than anyone.
HP makes fine computers, printers, etc. I own quite a lot of their products and have been very pleased. They also are one of the most innovative technology companies in the world. None of this counts for anything, however, because Dell, who neither actually makes or innovates anything, consistently outsells HP and everyone else by assembling the cheapest parts into overpriced machines and promoting the hell out of them. They have made P.T. Barnum proud.
I feel for those that have or are about to lose their jobs as I too am currently out of work. Unfortunately, the economic times we live in make these situations inevitable. Wall street dictates who works and who doesn't more than any other factor. It is an unfeeling force driven only by the demand and expectation of ever growing profits. - Posted by: mustangj36@...
