The question is WHERE do they advertise?
Ads placed in Linux World and similarly focused publications are just preaching to the choir and do nothing to reach the average consumer. When you're trying to sell an OS like Linux, with a steeper learning curve than Windows or Mac, you must go to extraordinary lengths to educate the public. And I don't mean computer geeks or corporate IT managers. If you want to get Linux off the ground, you have to aim it at the family shopping at WalMart for a PC and convince them that they will be able to use Linux AS EASILY as Windows. If you can't do this, you will fail. And you can't do it as long as their are thousands of distros out there and no one in the Linux community can seem to agree on anything to streamline the OS and make it consumer friendly. You have to stop bitching about Windows and UNITE behind ONE presentable distro. Then get at least one major pc maker to sell it preinstalled on machines thay are willing to back up with mainstream promotion. Anything less than this and Linux just won't have any chance at the home pc market.
