It takes 8 units of energy to produce 1 unit of Hydrogen
Those units are calculated for the overall big picture. Those units are usually refered to as joules, kilowatts or BTUs. This is not an energy source. It is an energy sink. You would be way better off charging your electric with a windmill. Toshiba has already came up with a battery in R&D that can be fully charged in a one minute.

Hydrogen will be used in small appliances, where portibility is the main concern.
