Don;t know about that
There were plenty of personal computer vendors before the IBM-PC was introduced. Had IBM stayed out (which would have been a severe mistake) others would have filled the vacuum and the personal computer revolution (already in full swing in 1983) would have happened anyway.

MS and Intel both rode to fame and fortune on IBM's coattails.
